Elizabeth sat at her elaborate dressing table and stared at her reflection. The steady ticking of a small clock above the fireplace warned her in less than five minutes, her husband would come through the connecting door and demand his rights. Her thoughts traced back to last night and the uncomfortable conversation which had taken place in her childhood bedroom after Mrs. Bennet had settled on the side of the bed next to her.

“You know what I have come to discuss.”

She could only nod while her entire body burned with embarrassment. Her stepmother heaved a heavy sigh and began by saying, “I am not going to give you the fairy dust story my mother gave me the night before I wed my first husband. You deserve the brutal truth so you can be prepared. Your husband is a large man and you are quite petite. Your first few times in the marriage bed will be uncomfortable unless you prepare your body prior to giving him access.”
